Instructions for editing species maps
BEFORE EDITING
- If you haven't already, open the map editing application
- Zoom into the area you want to edit
- Use the tools in the top left hand corner of the map to display additional information:
- Map Layers - display ALA species records, Bioregions or satellite imagery
- Upload Data - upload your own spatial data (data is discarded at the end of your session)
- Add Coord - Place a marker on the map at a specific location

STEP 1
- Click on which species you want to edit from the list. The map will only display the distribution for that species.
STEP 2
- Select editing option:
- POINTS - add extralimital record(s)
- LINES - draw a line to show how a distribution polygon should be changed
- POLYGONS - edit distribution polygons directly - REFER BELOW FOR EXCEPTIONS
POINTS
To edit a point you just added:
- click the POINTS edit button
- click 'Point' in the pop-up
- click on the map where you want to place your extralimital record
- complete the details for 'Infraspecific Name', 'Extralimital Type' and 'Notes' (all optional)
- click 'Create'
To edit a point you just added:
- click the POINTS edit button
- click 'Select' in the pop-up
- click and drag the point to the new location
- click 'Update' or 'Delete' in the pop-up
LINES
To edit or refine your line:
- click the LINES edit button
- click the distribution category you want to add in the pop-up
- use your mouse to draw the line you want to add, double click to finish your line
- complete the details for 'Infraspecific Name' and 'Notes' (both optional)
- click 'Create'
To edit or refine your line:
- click the LINES edit button
- click your line ONCE to select, click ONCE again to enable editing
- drag the vertices (grey dots) and nodes (white dots) to achieve your desired shape
- clicking a node (white dot) will create a new vertex
- to delete a vertex (grey dots), click it with your RIGHT mouse button
- click 'Update' or 'Delete'
POLYGONS
- DO NOT edit large polygons (i.e. areas larger than NSW), the system will freeze.
- DO NOT edit coastlines.
- In both of these cases use the LINE edit option instead.
To ADD a polygon

- click the distribution category you want to add in the pop-up
