Joint AMS & ABS Conference 2026

Accommodation

Conference participants need to book their own accommodation in Canberra. Note that accommodation is limited in Canberra especially when Parliament is sitting so we recommend you book your accommodation early.

There are many options available in Canberra, including hotels, Airbnb, hostels and caravan parks.
We have organised a couple of deals specifically for the conference.

Australian National University Apartments - these are nearby, very convenient and reasonably priced. There are 1, 2, 3 bedroom apartments and a 4 bedroom house. You can book directly via their website: ANU Apartments | Services. Note that these are usually reserved for people associated with ANU but they are supporting our conference by enabling our delegates to book. Please include that you are attending the Australian Mammal Society/Australasian Bat Society conference when you make your booking. These apartments will go quickly, so we recommend you book early.

Discount rate at Hotel Realm
Address: Realm Precinct, Barton ACT 2600, Phone: (02) 9158 1438. This hotel is 5 km from the Shine Dome, but relatively close to the Conference Dinner location.

Booking instructions: Guests need to book directly with the hotel via its website https://hotelrealm.com.au/ using the ‘ANUH Rate code’. A 10-15% discount will be applied on the ‘Best Flexible Rate’ with flexible terms around cancellations and changes. Accommodation bookings are subject to availability and T&C’s.

Camping
Another cheap (although potentially chilly) option is the Exhibition Park Canberra’s camping facilities, EPIC Budawang Flemington Rd, Mitchell ACT 2911, Phone:(02) 6205 5230. Book via the website [email protected]. This contains 70 hectares of unique country surroundings, only 8 minutes north of the city centre and offer full amenities including showers, toilets and laundry; powered and un-powered sites with access to water; and trams that run directly to the city.
