Joint Conference of the Australian Mammal Society & Australasian Bat Society
The Australian Mammal Society & Australasian Bat Society are proud to announce that a joint conference will be held at The Shine Dome, located in Canberra’s cultural precinct, on 6 to 9 July 2026. The Shine Dome is an iconic landmark near the city centre, surrounded by museums, galleries, and the Australian National Botanic Gardens. The venue is within easy reach of a wide variety of foraging sites (restaurants), watering holes (bars), and den/roost sites (accommodation options). Canberra’s bus and light rail networks make exploring the city simple, and the Shine Dome is just a 15-minute drive from Canberra Airport.
The conference will feature an engaging program of talks and posters covering a diverse range of mammal-related research and conservation topics. Presentations will be delivered by scientists, practitioners, and mammal (non-flying and flying) enthusiasts from across the Australasian region. The formal program, combined with a dynamic mix of social events, field sessions, and informal discussions, promises to inform and inspire 150-200 delegates over four full days. Early Career Researcher workshops will be held on 5 July and will be followed by a day (6 July) of two concurrent symposiums – one focusing on Dasyurids and the other on Bats and Wind Farms: Research to Inform Risk Reduction. A 3-day conference program covering the full breadth of mammal research and conservation will run on 7-9 July. An exciting welcome function and optional conference field trips are being planned and further
information will be available soon.
